Summer birthday of Paddington Bear- 25 June

June 25 is the summer birthday of Paddington Bear. Paddington, the cute little bear is a fictitious character in a series of books for children created by the British author Michael Bond.

In the first story the little bear was found by the Brown family, lost at the Paddington railway station with a note attached to his collar that read "Please look after this bear. Thank you." When the Browns asked him for his name he said his original Peruvian name was too complicated for them to pronounce, so they decided to call him Paddington. Also, since he was unsure of his age and since he was such a special bear they decided that he deserved two birthdays, just like the queen of England – his summer birthday on June 25 and his winter birthday on December 25.
Here are some interesting facts about Paddington Bear:

1.       The home address of the Brown family does not exist. Don't try to find it.
Many tourists who try to locate 32 Windsor Gardens, the address of Paddington's adoptive family, find out to their disappointment that there is no house with such a number in that street. Michael Bond invented that address as a combination of his and his parents' addresses.

2.       Had Michael Bond gone Christmas shopping earlier, Paddington Bear would not have been born.On Christmas Eve, 1956, Michael Bond entered a toy store looking for a present for his wife Brenda. On one of the shelves he noticed a small toy bear that had been left all by itself. Feeling sorry for it, Bond bought the bear, took it to his home near Paddington station, and sat down to write a few amusing tales about it just for fun. After ten days he realized that he had a book on his hands, not primarily intended to be specifically for children.

3.       Paddington Bear is a spectacled bear.
Bond wanted Paddington to be a bear that had "travelled all the way from darkest Africa", but his agent recommended that he change the original habitat as darkest Africa had no bears. So, Peru was selected, being the natural home of the spectacled bear. Paddington later reveals that his Peruvian name was Pastuso and that he was reluctant to disclose it fearing that no one would be able to pronounce it.

4.       Paddington Bear raised a political scandal.Mick Young, Australian Special Minister of State in Bob Hawk's government, was compelled to step resign in 1984 after failing to declare at customs a large Paddington bear and other goods carried by his wife in her luggage. The event became known as the Paddington Bear affair.

5.       Google loves Paddington Bear. On October 13, 2008, Google dedicated a doodle to Paddington Bear to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary since the publication of the first book in the Paddington Bear series.

6.       The Wellington boot manufacturers could hardly meet the massive demand for boots for Paddington Bear dolls.
The early Paddington Bear dolls were fitted with kiddy boots made by the Dunlop Corporation, in order to ensure that they stood up firmly. However, as demand stretched Dunlop's manufacturing capability to the limit, the doll makers Gabrielle Designs were forced to manufacture the boots by their own means. In the year 1978 the demand for Paddington Bears reached a peak of 87,000 dolls.

7.       Up to 2014 twenty four books were published in the Paddington Bear series.
Over thirty five million copies, translated into forty languages, were sold worldwide.

8.       Paddington appeared in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The phenomenon that is often called the "Paddington effect" shows no sign of waning. Paddington Races Ahead was published in April 2012 as a salute to the London Olympic Games that took place in the summer of that year. In the book, Paddington, who repeatedly says that his legs "are a bit short for the pole vault", is mistakenly identified as a Peruvian hurdler by a film crew. Naturally, Paddington actually participated in the opening ceremony parade along the athletic track in the Olympic Stadium.

Star Wars Day - May 4

Star Wars Day is an informal secular holiday that marks the greatness of George Lucas' Star Wars movie, one of the most watched classic films of all time. The holiday was celebrated by fans of the film. Like many things that started on social media, this holiday has also spread among the film fan population all over the world and is celebrated in many countries.

The reason May 4 was chosen to be Star Wars Day is the pun in the movie "May the Force be with you" that sounds like "May the Fourth be with you".

The first time this day was mentioned was on May 4, 1979, when British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher took office. Thatcher's Conservative Party has published a statement in the London evening news: "May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations".
2011 was the first organized Star Wars Day celebration in Toronto, Canada. Celebrate it at Toronto's Morning Cinema with trivia questionnaires about the movie trilogy, a costume contest where the judges were celebrities, a video contest of the cast, parodies and remixes aired on the big screen and other fun things related to the Star Wars movie. Next year, on May 4, 2012 they celebrated the same way.
In 2013 Disney parks also joined in the celebration and did like Star Wars events and festivals.

Bugs Bunny Day - April 30th

April 30 is the birthday of Bugs Bunny, the most famous rabbit in the world, who first appeared on this date in 1938.
Bugs Bunny is the star of the cartoon series "Looney Tunes" and "Merry Melodies" produced by the Warner Brothers.

The character of Bugs Bunny is a character of a trickster who likes to do pranks. He was famous for saying, "What's up, Doc?" Said while chewing raw carrots.
Bugs Bunny was originally voiced by Mel Blanc, "The Man with a Thousand Voices," dubbed by Jewish-American cartoons that lived between the years 1908-1989. Blanc also dubs Duffy Duck, Tweety Bird, Yosemite Sam, Porky Pig, Sylvester Cat, Speedy Gonzalez, the Tasmanian Devil and more.

While recording the voice of Bugs Bunny, Blanc used to chew raw carrots and spit it immediately into a marzipan, as swallowing the carrots would take too long. There were attempts to use other fruits and vegetables to make the sound but they were unsuccessful because the sound made was not similar enough to the sound of chewing carrots. There was a rumor that Blanc was allergic to carrots and that's why he would spit it out, but that's not true.
The origin of the name "Bugs Bunny" came from the animator Ben Hardaway, who created Bugs 'sketch in 1938. Ben's nickname was Bugs and when he drew the rabbit, he wrote under the drawing "Bugs' Bunny".
In the cartoon series based on the cartoons, Bugs Bunny's real name is George Washington Bunny.
Bugs Bunny has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

World Theatre Day - March 27

World Cinema Day is celebrated every year on March 27th. This day was founded by the International Theater Institute. The goal of this day is to bring cinema everywhere: under trees in tiny villages, on high-tech stages in the global metropolis; In school halls and temples; In slums, urban squares, community centers and urban basements. Everyone needs movies and movies. On this day everyone gathers to weep and remember; To laugh and ponder; Learn and imagine. To regulate our collective breathing in our capacity for beauty and compassion and rage. On this day we celebrate the richness of our different cultures, and blur the boundaries that separate us.

This is the message conveyed by Brett Bailey, from the World Cinema Institute, in honor of World Cinema Day in 2014:
Cinema is important. If we stop going to the movies and download free movies online illegally, the movies will disappear, there will be no point in making more movies. And along with cinema, movies from the world will also disappear .... think about it.

Wonder Woman Birthday - March 22

March 22 is the birthday of the super hero, the woman of valor, the Super Woman- Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman is a fictional character that first appeared in DC comics in December 1941.
The figure was created by William Moulton Marston (the man who invented the Systolic Blood Pressure Meter and the Polygraph), and is among the most famous characters of superheroes. Wonder Woman is one of DC's top three superheroes, together with Superman and Batman.

The first comic character of Wonder Woman, dated 1941 (a link to Wonder Woman comic books)
Wonder Woman is the Princess of the Amazons Diana (based on Greek mythology). It has superhuman powers and tools given to her by the Olympic gods, in order to bring peace, love and brotherhood to our world.

In the new adaptation of the character, Wonder Woman received her qualities and powers from Greek mythology: the beauty of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, the wisdom of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and justice, her physical strength from the goddess Demeter, and her animal instincts from Artemis, the goddess of hunting, wildlife and the moon.

The 2017 Wonder Woman film plays the character of Wonder Woman Israeli actress Gal Gadot.

Between 1975 and 1979, there was an American television series called Wonder Woman in which actress Linda Carter starred as the woman of valor.

Why is March 22 the birthday of Wonder Woman?
Unlike superheroes like Superman and Batman, the story of Wonder Woman's birth is not told in any of her advertising. DC announced on its calendar in 1976 that March 22 is the day Wonder Woman was born on the island of Paradise. It is not clear why they chose this date. It may be because it is the equinox, the day the length of day and night is equal and spring begins, and this corresponds to the values that Wonder Woman represents - equality and justice.

Hollywood Walk of Fame Establishment day - February 8

Today in 1960, the Hollywood Walk of Fame was inaugurated, a sidewalk between Wayne Street and Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California, USA, with more than 2,500 stars, with each star the name of a celebrity who has made a significant contribution to the entertainment industry.
The initiative to dedicate the avenue to people who have contributed to the culture comes from the Hollywood City Council, which hired artist Oliver Weissmuller for this purpose. In 1958 he created it, with 2,500 blank stars. In the first six months, the names of entertainers were stamped on 1,558 stars. The stars were divided into five categories according to achievements in film, theater, radio, television and music and were entertainers whose names were imprinted on several stars.
In recent decades the trend has been to give single stars to cultural figures who have not yet received a star.

The official launch ceremony of the boulevard took place on February 8, 1960 due to legal complications that delayed its inauguration.
Actress Joan Woodward is considered the first to win a star on the avenue, but she may have been among the first and simply the first to be photographed with her star.
Gene Otter, a well-known celebrity in the field of acting, singing, songwriting and rodeo is the only one to receive 5 stars in the five categories.
Every year on May 31, the Avenue of the Stars Council announces the candidates for new stars. In June, celebrities will be selected to receive a star and a star-studded ceremony hosted by the Honorable Mayor of Hollywood, Johnny Grant, open to the general public.
There is complete secrecy regarding the identities of the members of the Avenue of the Stars Council and many attempts by the media to find out who they were unsuccessful.
The youngest celebrities to receive a star are twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, who received the star at the age of 17.
Starring fictional characters: Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Snow White, Woody Woodpecker, Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck, Godzilla, Kermit the Frog, Lassie the Bitch, The Simpsons, Phi Wei Herman, Regrets, C-3PO, Shrek, Tinker Bell , Snoopy and more.
The first character from an animated film to receive a star was Mickey Mouse, who received the star in 1978 in honor of his 50th birthday.

Mickey Mouse - Hollywood Star!
If you want to get to the Avenue of the Stars, it stretches from east to west on Hollywood Avenue, from Gower Street to La Rode Avenue and north to south on Wayne Street, between Yuka Street and Sunset Avenue.
Inside each star is the name of the celebrity and under its name a symbol of the category in which he contributed to the entertainment industry: film camera for the film industry, TV for the TV industry, record for the music industry, radio for the radio industry and a pair of tragedy and comedy masks for the theater industry.

Science Fiction Day - January 2

Science Fiction Day is celebrated unofficially by many science fiction fans in the United States on January 2. The date was chosen (not known by whom and when) because it is the birthday of famous science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.

Isaac Asimov was born on January 2, 1920, to a Jewish family on the border between Russia and Belarus, and at the age of three emigrated with his family to the US. He is responsible for several great literary works such as "Sunset," "I, Robot," "The naked sun" And more.

SFD is not an official holiday of any kind (in the sense that it is not recognized or declared by a government or an organization), but it is, to a certain extent, a feature of television on the Hallmark channel.

If you want to mention the science fiction day, spend it by reading a good science fiction book or watching a science fiction film.

Recommended partial list:

Books by Philip K. Dick or Kurt Vonnegut, Stanley Kubrick's Movie Marathon, 2001: Space Odyssey, Ridley Scott, Alien, or Garth Jennings, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

In "Alien" you will see one of the most famous footage of the science fiction scam of all time, in a section on how "in space no one can hear you scream" and how a close encounter of the third kind becomes a jaws nightmare when an alien invades a spaceship. The "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" is a comic science fiction film based on Douglas Adams's book about what happens just seconds before the earth is destroyed by a foreign construction team and Arthur Dent and his friend Ford Perfect are rescued as they travel to the Golden Heart as trams in the galaxy.

If you like science fiction, this is the day to celebrate your love. If not, this is the day to meet.
