A butterfly has four main stages of development:
Egg - Butterfly eggs are protected by a hard outer layer of shell. It is lined with a thin wax coating, which prevents the egg from drying out before the larva has had time to fully develop.
Caterpillar - caterpillars have a cylindrical shape. In their heads are several eyes, strong jaws, three pairs of legs (a pair of legs in each thorax) and in addition about five pairs of simulated legs, along the abdomen.
Chrysalis- The chrysalis is usually of the mummified type.
Butterfly - adult butterflies are characterized by two pairs of flight wings covered with scales, as well as sucking mouthparts, and the varied colors of the wings are intended for camouflage, warning or attracting a mate.
There are about 20,000 species of butterflies in the entire world.
