World Mental Health Day was established in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health. In some countries, it is only one part of a whole week of mental illness awareness.
Mental health problems, ranging from diseases such as depression and anxiety to situations like schizophrenia, affect millions of people around the world. In fact, according to current data, 1 in 4 people experiences a particular type of mental health problem during their lifetime and many are family members or friends of mental patients.
The purpose of the World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health problems, to increase education on the subject and to eliminate the stigma that has afflicted them. All this in the hope that it will encourage sufferers to seek help and support.
Worldwide fundraising events are held around the world. So why not check for an event close to you and see support for a solution to this serious problem?
October 10th is also National Handbag Day
